  55. Well here is another one, I use Flash all the time and often save
  56. the Capture Buffer, Well I have lost a Few Captures because  you save
  57. a File, there no check that the File Name you are using is allready there,
  58. ie, no check for duplicate file names, so a TSR to work with Flash, when
  59. saving marked blocks would be very useful, ie check for duplicate file name..

  72.   I encourage folks who can't afford other computers to buy the ST.  Most
  73. of them end up with one floppy drive, no HDD.
  74.    We'd like to be able to boot a disk, copying everything on it to a RAM
  75. disk it creates, all done automatically on bootup.  Then we could run that
  76. program from RAM.  RAMSTART for the Mac does this.  It takes just as long
  77. to load it to the RAM disk and then run it, as it does to run it from the
  78. floppy; but then in using the program you have the extra speed.
  79.   Having a user-selectable drive name, or else defaulting to drive A:,
  80. would make it useable with fussy programs like Timeworks DTP.
  81.  
  82. Please don't comment with "why dont you buy a hard drive/pagestream/etc."
  83. There are a lot of people in the world who can't afford a small fortune
  84. for a computer, much less adding harddrives.  The ST is ideal for them;
  85. excellent service from 1 disk drive, even with a TV set.

  132.     I've read the current thread with interest, but few seem to have mentioned
  133. what I find to be very annoying about Pagestream 1.8, and that is inexplicable
  134. (by me) lockups, forcing a certain intimacy with the power switch. This happens
  135. often enough that I fear it constantly and am loathe to spring for PS 2.*.
  136. I've also found it very troublesome to import text from WordWriter.. the
  137. kerning seems odd, and can't be changed.
  138.     Does anyone else experience this, or do I have some systemic problem???
  139. As it stands now, I know nothing about Calamus, but I sure want to learn.

  162. I use C-Lab's NOTATOR, which is outstanding.  The new version, 3.1, finally
  163. incorporates all the font and layout capabilities you'd ever need.
  164.  
  165. However, it's neither shareware nor cheap (about $500), probably because it
  166. also includes the world's greatest sequencing software.

  181. Well, I've had a Mega STE on order for quite some time now, and finally
  182. saw the machine on Friday. I cancelled the order the same day, and am
  183. now buying a Macintosh LC.
  184.  
  185. Reasons? Well, despite the 16Mhz 68000, according to the benchtest
  186. program Quick Index, the BIOS actually came out as being slower than on
  187. my nearly five year old STFM. The hard drive handling is appalling -
  188. name another machine where you have to press a key before it recognises
  189. the hard drive (yes - I -know- you can wait for around ninety seconds,
  190. but that is simply unacceptable). I can't. Also, the hard drive fan is
  191. fairly noisy, it certainly irritated me after using it for a while. All
  192. this plus the current rumours of yet another DMA cock-up has convinced
  193. me that, taking a long term view, I'd be wasting my money if I sank it
  194. into Atari anymore. I've been a faithful fan of the ST for some time
  195. now, and would -still- choose one over a Mac Classic, but I have to
  196. think of the future of such a large investment, and long term I don't
  197. see one.

  199. The net result of this is that I have the Spectre 128 Mac emulator for
  200. sale, preferably to a UK buyer - but as they buyer will pay postage I'm
  201. prepared to send it anywhere. No ROMs, I'm afraid, but there's a list of
  202. sources if you need them. I'm asking sixty-five pounds, which is what it
  203. cost me, so I'm not trying to rip anyone off.

  205. Meanwhile, I bid you all a fond farewell. I've enjoyed my ST years, and
  206. it's taken me further than I expected to go, but current circumstances
  207. dictate that it's time to go.

  323. I have been making comments about FaST Tech's 68K 20Mhz board, and
  324. mainly they have been very critical.

  326. I still maintain the position that running a board or encouraging
  327. this kind of practice of under design.

  329. Especially since the ST is NOT at any point a stable hardware design.
  330. Even during periods of manufacturing the boards electrical chracteristics
  331. change often enough to make such a upgrade dubious.

  465. I'm having trouble reading from and writing to the RS232 port on
  466. my 1040st (1985 roms).  Internals tells me that there is some problem
  467. with TOS and the Clear To Send interrupt line on the MFP.  Can anyone
  468. give me a hand with the work-around for this problem?

  511. I bought this Supercharger back in May, and I have enjoyed using it.
  512. However, this coming school year I will be living with a friend of mine
  513. who owns an IBM PS-2, so an IBM emulator is less of a necessity for me now.

  515. The Supercharger is literally in like-new condition.  With the purchase you
  516. will receive DOS 4.01, version 1.3 of the Supercharger utilities, all the
  517. original documentation, the original box, and even the original packing foam.

  519. All this for the modest price of $300, and I'll even pay shipping.

  618. I recently ran into a problem trying to archive a set of files, one of
  619. which was over 260KB.  ZOO gave me a read error on the file.  So I
  620. ported the rest of my archive over to a Unix system along with the
  621. problem file, extracted all the files from the archive and re-archived
  622. them all.  The problem file archived without any difficulty.

  624. Comparing the two archives I noted that both the ST and the Unix ZOO
  625. archives show the same file lengths before and after archiving, but the
  626. ST archive is roughly twice the size of the Unix archive.  There must be
  627. a lot of dead space in it.  Anyone able to shed light on this?

  629. The ZOO used on the ST is version 2.01STe, ported to the ST 89/3/30.
